Strategic outsourcing gave Thise a modern intranet and freedom to focus on core business
When Thise Dairy faced a technological generational shift, they made a conscious choice: They would not code in SharePoint themselves. By outsourcing development to Compent, they boosted both security and user experience, while their internal IT department could maintain focus on critical production systems.

From technical debt to a strategic choice about the core business
Thise Mejeri's previous intranet was originally built in under two days to solve an acute need. This led to a series of technical shortcuts in a solution that, over time, had become both security-wise and technologically obsolete.
The situation came to a head as the old platform was built on technology that could no longer be upgraded to meet modern security standards. A simple update was not possible—a complete rebuild was necessary.
Thise therefore faced a dilemma: Should their internal IT specialists, who run the production systems (MES) on a daily basis, spend time learning a brand-new programming language (SPFx)? Or should they find a partner who could handle the task externally?

In a close partnership, Thise chose to outsource 100% of the frontend development to Compent. Compent delivered a custom SharePoint solution that respects the dairy’s requirement for "island mode" operation, ensuring production is never dependent on the intranet.
The solution is built around three technical pillars:
- App-like User Experience: Via SharePoint Framework (SPFx), we developed a mobile-first user interface that retrieves data directly from Thise’s on-premise SQL databases.
- Automated Compliance: Beyond news and events, a special module for "Worktime Deviation" was developed, automatically checking compliance with the 11-hour rule and rest days.
- Secure Access (SSO): Integration with Azure AD ensures that everyone—from temporary workers to permanent staff—logs in via Single Sign-On. This closed the security gaps the old system suffered from.
The new platform has eliminated the old wait times. Where there could previously be up to a 15-minute delay from data entry to synchronization, updates now happen instantly directly against the database. However, the biggest gain is strategic.
"We don’t have that language [SPFx] internally. What we achieved by using you is that we could outsource 100%," explains Henrik Stisen. This means Thise's own developers can now use their energy optimizing dairy operations, while the 200 employees have a social and efficient tool in their pocket—with access to everything from shift plans to the next company party.
