New national portal digitizes access to 4,000 nature experiences for Danes

Udinaturen.dk is Denmark's largest guide to nature experiences, but the existing platform was technologically outdated and not mobile-friendly.

For citizens, it was a cumbersome experience to find relevant routes and facilities. At the same time, the system was a major challenge for the 98 municipalities and the Danish Nature Agency's units, which, as content providers, had to create and maintain information. The complex user interface made it difficult to ensure updated and engaging content, which ultimately created a barrier between the Danes and nature.

A user-centric and future-proof platform built on Umbraco

In a close partnership with Friluftsrådet and with input from the many content providers, we developed an entirely new version of Udinaturen.dk. The process was based on an in-depth analysis of the needs of both end-users and content providers to ensure a solution that created value for all parties.

The platform is built on Umbraco and designed with a "mobile-first" approach. The core of the solution is:

  • An intuitive user experience: It is now simple for citizens to search, filter, and find exactly the information they need, whether they are on the go or planning from home.
  • A simple editor flow: We designed a customized and user-friendly backend that makes it easy for the many decentralized editors to create and maintain high-quality content without needing technical expertise.
  • Integrations: The solution integrates with external services such as Denmark's Address Register to ensure data quality and automate processes.

Increased accessibility and strengthened dissemination of nature experiences

The new platform has transformed Udinaturen.dk from a technical limitation into a strategic resource that actively supports Friluftsrådet's mission.

  • Significantly improved user experience: Danes have gained a modern and easily accessible gateway to discovering and using nature.
  • Streamlined content production: Municipalities and other partners can now easily share their knowledge and offerings, which has raised the quality and timeliness of the content on the portal.
